The young 'Veldheer of Elsloo' - an oak with a story
The young 'Veldheer (or warlord) of Elsloo' - a native oak (quercus robur) was planted here in 2011 by Elslo school schildren, to replace the old 'veldheer of Elsloo', so called by the inhabitants of Elsloo. It was a monumental oak tree that became more than 300 years old, with a circumference of about 4.5 meters, and was felled due to a stong wind some years earlier. The new 'veldheer of Elsloo' was placed next too the remnants of the old tree. Elsloo woods (Elslooërbos), Natura 2000 nature protection area. Elsloo, Stein, Limburg, Netherlands.
